Should any child become ill during the course of the day especially with diarrhea, vomiting, fever or “flu-like symptoms, the PARENTS will be asked to remove their child from Longtown Creche Ltd and to do so promptly. PARENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PICK UP THEIR CHILD WITHIN ONE (1) HOUR OF BEING CALLED BY THE PROVIDER. If your child becomes ill at Longtown Creche Ltd, we will keep him/her in isolation until he/she is picked up (1 HOUR).

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU ARE ALWAYS CONTACTABLE WHETHER ON A WORK, HOME OR MOBILE NUMBER.

Please notify Longtown Creche Ltd if your child has been exposed to a contagious disease. This protects your child, and the other children in care. If your child is exposed to any communicable disease Longtown Creche Ltd will notify you as soon as we are notified. Let’s all remember to operate by the GOLDEN RULE since the health of the children and provider are at risk.

Temperatures

If a child is found to have a temperature which causes concern parents will be asked to collect their child immediately. A minority of children may develop high temperature convulsions. Others may develop illness following on from high temperatures. Parents should understand the need for the creche managers and staff to decide the point at which a temperature is unacceptably high.

Conjunctivitis

The child may only return to the creche when the doctor has prescribed drops or ointment and these have been administered for at least 24 hours. Our staff will then apply prescription with parental consent.

Diarrohea/Vomiting

If a child has diarrohea or is vomiting the managers will immediately ring the parent to take him/her home. Guidelines for creches require that no child may remain in the creche with diarrohea or vomiting. The child will only be readmitted when they have gone 24 hours without diarrohea or vomiting.

Contagious Diseases

When a child is suspected of having a contagious disease e.g. measles, chickenpox, conjunctivitis, diarrhea, vomiting etc the parents will be contacted immediately and asked to take the child to a doctor. If confirmed, the appropriate amount of home care should be followed as advised by your doctor. Parents are asked to advise the creche as soon as possible.

Head Lice

The creche situation is one of close contact. If a child has head lice or live eggs parents will be contacted to take the child home for treatment with a suitable shampoo. The child may return to the nursery following treatment. It is advised that the whole family are treated.

Any child who has seen a physician and has been prescribed an antibiotic for an illness (contagious or not) will not be accepted into care until the child has been on medication FOR 24 HOURS. This rule is in place to protect your child and the childcare in case there should be an adverse reaction to the medication.

If Longtown Creche Ltd feels your child has a lingering illness and should visit the doctor, the child will not be readmitted for care without a note from their doctor on record.

Health and Ilness Policy is strictly enforced.
